2025 round up

This year has been full of lots of exciting events for Anstey Parish Council. Our biggest event, this year, was the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Anstey Parish Council worked in partnership with the Anstey branch of The Royal British Legion and together a very special day was celebrated. A lot of hard work went into the planning and preparation of this event and it was a huge success.

Throughout the year, we have celebrated the residents of Anstey in many different ways . We celebrated the John Sutherington award winner, we enjoyed the beautiful gardens around Anstey and awarded the Anstey in Bloom winners and more recently we have enjoyed the Christmas Lights displayed in the homes around the village with the Christmas Lights competition winners being celebrated last week. A number of grants were also given out during last year in support of the local community groups we are so privileged to have on our doorstep. We welcomed a whole range of groups to our Parish Meeting and heard how so many of them would benefit from our help, we were delighted to issue grants to four of these and hope this will help them go from strength to strength in 2026.

During the spring and summer, we held an Easter Hunt for the younger residents in our villages. Plenty of chocolate was consumed and lots of happy faces came to visit us in the Parish Council office. We also facilitated the running of the annual Yard Sale, it took place on one of the hottest days of the year but this didn't deter the shoppers, it was lovely to see so many people out and about supporting this super event. The Anstey Gala also took place at the end of the summer, it was incredible to see so many stall holders, volunteers, children, adults and community groups all at Anstey Recreation Ground, joining in and witnessing the fun, games, displays and music on show. We would also like to thank everyone, of all ages, who took part in the Skate Park voting, this will be a fantastic addition to our village in 2026 so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

Anstey Parish Council held their first Allotment Event in 2025, the Groby Road allotment site has proven to be a welcome addition to the village so we invited Steve Budding to come and talk to our allotment holders about how to implement some new ideas and strategies into their own allotment journey. This was a truly fascinating evening and an event we hope to hold again in 2026.

Throughout 2025, Anstey Parish Council have held a number of weekly events including a Coffee morning, a Table Tennis group, Games Night and the hugely popular Knitting and Crocheting group. A large number of Anstey residents rallied together, with the help of Anstey Parish Council, working for weeks on end, to create an outstanding display for Remembrance Day. Over 4,000 poppies were knitted and crocheted and then mounted outside of Jubilee Hall for the entire village, and beyond, to enjoy. This was a very proud moment for Anstey and a wonderful tribute to those who have, so bravely, fought for their country.

We hope that 2026 will bring even more excitement, we will continue to run our weekly groups, which are open to anyone and everyone in Anstey, please do come along and join in.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
